Lishmans has Spanish ambitions

Yorkshire butcher Lishman's aims to bring a taste of Iberia to the north of England by becoming the exclusive partner to a Spanish food consortium.

Lishman's has established a supply partnership with D'Elitte, a 14-strong consortium of small, select, family-run Spanish producers, with the aim of selling Spanish products to Lishman's customers at its shops in Ilkley and Bolton Abbey.

Lishman's is now importing products directly from the group's distribution headquarters in Valencia, which include chorizo sausage, Serrano ham, gazpacho, Spanish olives, hard-to-come-by Majorcan soft sausage Sobressada and a selection of ambient products, such as quince paste and olive tapenade.

For over 40 years, each member of the consortium has been providing the Spanish market with traditional Spanish products and the consortium was created in 2005 with the aim of promoting emblematic Spanish food in Europe.

Butcher David Lishman, reported that the products had made an immediate impact with customers, notably tapas lovers, and, as the sole distributor for the north of England, Lishman's is also making the Spanish products available to other butcher's shops, as well as the catering and hospitality trade.
