Devon butcher lifts award a third time

Gerald David has been officially crowned 'Best Butcher in Devon' at a prestigious local awards ceremony

. It's the third time the Topsham branch of the regional firm has been voted 'customer's favourite' at the annual Devon Life Food & Drink Awards.

The Oscars-style ceremony, hosted by BBC Radio Devon presenter Judi Spiers, saw the Topsham team beat off stiff competition from some of the region's premiere butchers to lift the award. Entirely voted for by the public, the awards asked customers to quiz their local butcher about traceability and knowledge of hanging and cooking the meats. They were also asked to check the variety of items on offer and take into account customer service.

Shop manager Barry Kelland said: "We're absolutely delighted to have picked up the Best Butcher award for the third time. The Gerald David name has always been synonymous with quality and customer service but the awards we've won really help to seal that reputation.

"The fact that it's entirely voted for customers and local people is the best possible endorsement for us too - it just doesn't get any better than that."
