Yorkshire food to take its meat products global

Yorkshire meat will be part of a major drive of exports in the coming year as the Regional Food Group for Yorkshire and Humberside look to push internationally.

Under the deliciouslyorkshire branding, the Regional Food Group exhibited a number of food and drink businesses from Yorkshire including Yorkshire Game and Bare Earth at Foodex and commercial director John Hendy said it will not be just the UK where the Regional Food Group will be looking at.

He said: “We are getting involved with a lot more exports. We exhibited last year in Dubai and the Fancy Food Show (New York) and we will be exhibiting this year at FHA Singapore at the end of April and then probably again at SIAL (France) and there will be meat products being represented there. We will be doing showcasing events across the world so we’re not just dealing in the region but also exports to the world.”

Hendy added there is a consumer trend of wanting to buy local and a greater desire to know where something is sourced.

“In terms of meat we have got some fabulous businesses growing up in the region such as debbie & andrew’s and we’ve got a lot of meat producers whether it’s Yorkshire Game, Taste Tradition, there are a few very well established companies which really do procure their meat.”

Hendy estimated there are 70 farm shops in and around Yorkshire where butchery is seen as an integral part of the set-up offering competitive rates and the best cuts.
