Healthy sausage offer launched into Asda

Highland Game is hoping for healthy sales with the news another supermarket has signed up to offer its new diet-friendly sausage.

The Scottish Slimmers Wildly Healthy Venison Sausage goes into 24 Asda stores across Scotland from 15 March.

The retailer is joining other leading stores, including Tesco and Sainsbury’s in Scotland, to offer calorie-counting customers a sausage option.

Ingela Kassander Nissen, PR and marketing co-ordinator with Highland Game, said: “We wanted to develop a healthier sausage that would appeal to dieters, healthy eaters and the weight-conscious alike, but also to the family market where parents are fast becoming aware that their children’s health can be improved through a sensible diet.

“We are delighted to see that our Wildly Healthy Venison Sausages seem to have become the consumer’s family meal choice – we have found that our healthy sausages work as a family, child-friendly and extremely palatable introduction to venison, encouraging consumers to try the rest of our range. Our Wildly Healthy Sausage was initially launched in September 2009 and is already our number two best-selling retail product, the sales more than doubling in January 2010.”
