Venison company expands
Tim Bastable has joined Holme Farmed Venison as its procurement manager, with responsibility for overseeing the procurement process, including sourcing stock – both as finished animals for processing and as calves for growing.
Bastable joins Holme Farmed Venison from Venico, a farmer-run venison cooperative. He has also worked as head of primestock meat strategy at Harrison and Hetherington auctioneers, and as group procurement manager for Midland Meat Packers.
The naturally reared venison specialist, based in Sherburn-in-Elmet, Yorkshire, has just opened a roundhouse building and is able to take more stock at each stage.
Said Bastable: “I’m looking forward to working with Holme Farmed Venison, especially as they now have the roundhouse facility, which helps to raise the herds ethically.”
MD Nigel Sampson added: “The market for venison remains strong and has withstood the recession very well. Importantly, Tim will also be maintaining our use of the Quality Assurance scheme, with the help of the European Food Safety and Inspection Service.”
