Pork product competition deadline looming

 - Published:  15 January, 2010

Manufacturers and butchers supplying pork products to caterers have the chance to showcase their products in an annual contest.

Bpex Foodservice Pork Product of the Year Competition is inviting entries from processors and butchers who manufacture products for the foodservice sector. These must contain pork produced to a quality assurance standard as the main ingredient.

The six categories are: fresh pork cut – products supplied as fresh uncooked products; pork ready meals – ready meals where the main component is pork; cold eating product – ready-to-eat products such as sandwich fillers, terrines and pâté; pork and pastry – includes pies, sausage rolls, Chinese-style dumplings or samosas; best cured product – cured or smoked products, such as ham and bacon; best innovative pork product – anything not included in the other five categories.

The competition, launched in 2007, receives more than 100 entries. A first, second and third place in each category will be announced at a special presentation at Butchers Hall on 9 March when the overall champion will also be crowned.

The closing date for entries is 27 January. Call Toni Connolly on 07503 871179, email info@bpexfoodservice.com, or see www.porkforcaterers.com for more details.
