Butchers in new meat glaze challenge

 - Published:  11 January, 2010

Butchers are being challenged to come up with a new meat glaze in a UK-wide contest.

In a move similar to Walker’s Crisps quest to find a new variety, Witwood Meat Ingredients is looking for a unique flavour, which will be added to its newly launched range of glazes.

While Walkers gave 1% of sales of the winning Builder’s Breakfast flavour to inventor Emma Rushin, Witwood is giving the winning butcher £250-worth of products and inviting them to oversee the formulation of the glaze at its factory in Banbury. The product will be named after them and marketed nationally as part of the Witwood range.

Witwood MD Bryan Day said: “This is the perfect opportunity to turn your great flavour idea into reality – and get some free products in the process. Continuous innovation underpins everything we do at Witwood, so we’re always exploring new flavour ideas. Who better to advise on what tastes will be a success than Britain’s frontline butchers?”

Steve Brooks, sales manager at distributor Globe Food Ingredients, added: “We’re keen to reflect key food trends in the range and get butchers directly involved in broadening the product collection with new and original ideas.”

The competition runs until 30 April and entries can be submitted by email or via freepost. Full details at witwoodmeatingredients.co.uk.
