The NFU is urging members and non-members to give their views on how labour shortages and the current migration situation are affecting their businesses in a new survey.

The National Farmers Union is urging members and non-members to give their views on how labour shortages and the current migration situation are affecting their businesses in a new survey available on NFU Online.

The University of Liverpool has been commissioned by the Home Office's 'Migration Advisory Committee' (MAC) to assess the extent and type of labour shortages within UK agriculture and horticulture amid mounting concerns from growers.

NFU horticulture board chairman Richard Hirst said: "It is vitally important farmers and growers fill in and return their surveys, so that government receives the most up-to-date information they need to make the right policy decisions regarding seasonal labour."

The Migration Advisory Committee is the new body set up to provide government with independent advice on skill and labour shortages in the economy.
