Success for mutton company

 - Published:  24 December, 2009

Elan Valley Mutton has scooped a gold award at this year’s Welsh True Taste Food and Drink Awards.

Company owners Tony and Angela Davies, based in Powys, were awarded the accolade for their Leg of Elan Valley Mutton in the small producer section of the red meat category.

Angela said: “We know it is the unique taste of our mutton that really helped it to win. It’s succulent with a rich flavour and has a slightly grainier texture than lamb. This award proves that mutton really is a meat worth celebrating.”

The pair have been producing Renaissance Mutton for over five years. Their Welsh Mountain sheep graze naturally on their 1,700-acre hill farm and they supply whole carcases to butchers, prepared meat to delicatessens and farm shops as well as selling directly to the public at farmers markets and via their website.
