The keys to better safety

 - Published:  13 November, 2009

French safety specialist SERV Trayvou Interverrouillage (STI) has launched a key exchange box, the NX1000, said to guarantee safe machine maintenance.

An initial key is inserted into the exchange box to release three other keys that give access to dangerous areas on machines, where safety conditions have already been satisfied. For example, a machine that has been turned off, an electric circuit that has been opened and locked off or a hydraulic system that has been prevented from operating will all allow the three access keys to be released.

As long as these three keys are not returned to the exchange box, the initial key remains trapped. The machine or installation cannot be restarted while maintenance work is in progress.Made from stainless steel, the NX1000 is suitable for use in corrosive or dusty environments.
