An East Sussex farm shop is celebrating after beating local butchers to take home the top prize at the South East Sauasage and Pie Competition.

The Old Dairy Farm's old English pork sauasage was crowned grand champion sausage at the event, which was held at the at the South Eastern Prime Stock Winter Fayre in the South of England showground, Ardingly.

Hilary Knight, manager of Taste of Sussex, said the winner recieved top scores from all of the judges and was highly regarded as a good "all round" sausage. “It was well seasoned, succulent, juicy, well structured and smelt delicious," she said.

Speaking after her win, Sharon Barnard of The Old Dairy Farm, said: “Winning this award is a testament to all the hard work that has gone into the Old Dairy Farm. When my partner Trevor and I took over the farm six years ago, it was completely derelict. To have gone from a wreck to an award winner in six years is a real achievement.”

Entries to the show were strong this year, with around 100 entries across three sausage and pie categories: traditional pork, speciality and beef or lamb.

Knight said: “The standard of all entries in the competition was tremendous and demonstrates the excellent quality and producition in sausage-making we have locally.”
