Southover to launch high street own-brand range
Sussex-based speciality food distributor and meat manufacturer Southover Food Company is planning to launch its own-brand meat range onto the high street.
The company's meat division, Southover Cooked Meats, currently supplies a range of meat products - including gammon, beef, turkey and salami - to foodservice establishments across the south.
Having completed a £400,000 refurbishment of its meat manufacturing facility, including the installation of dedicated slicing and dispatch departments, Southover has increased its cooked meat production by 50% and is looking to target its range at top-end retailers.
The company is also hoping to capitalise on its success at a number of award shows recently. The Southover Free-Range Dry Gammon Ham won the meat category at Food & Drink Expo's Ideas to Dine For 2008 Awards and the Southover Roast Beef Topside won a gold award at this year's Great Taste Awards.
Managing director Steve Pearce said: "We have always done meat but have never really pushed it before. Now we have increased capacity and won awards we would like to move our range into a number of high-end, independent retailers."
Southover Food Company is currently the only distributor in the south of England that manufactures own-brand meats. Although the company distributes a range of speciality foods to delis, cafés, restaurants and caterers through van sales, Southover is looking for a distributor to move its meats into the retail market.
