Show to debate future of meat
The future of livestock supply will be under the microscope as part of a key debate during the new AgriLIVE Smithfield show next month.
The event, which takes place at Stoneleigh, Warwickshire on 11-12 December, will see a high-profile panel of speakers take part in a major debate to discuss the future of the red meat industry.
Chaired by Stuart Thomson, chair of the English Food and Farming Partnership, the headline debate will feature leading industry representatives, including: Alistair Mackintosh, chair of the National Farmers’ Union’s Livestock Board; David Hughes, professor of food marketing at Imperial College; and Richard Ashworth, MEP.
The speakers will discuss discuss how they see challenges such as declining livestock numbers, cheap imports, price and profitability being tackled. Open to all, the debate will take place in the main arena on the Friday morning of AgriLIVE Smithfield.
AgriLIVE Smithfield is being co-organised by the Royal Agricultural Society of England (RASE), and the Royal Smithfield Club, and is aiming to provide access for all parts of the red meat supply chain to the latest advice and products, as well as providing a new platform for the Royal Smithfield Club primestock classes.
“The event’s technical pivot of Quality Meat Production, will look at new and innovative ways for producers to secure maximum returns from their livestock,” said Alice Bell, assistant events director for RASE. “Industry-leading organisations and experts will deliver advances in genetics and nutrition while giving visitors the opportunity to see the latest new technology in action, and provide the most up-to-date advice on business management.”
A number of forums and workshops will also take place across the two-day event, focusing on a wide range of issues, from supply chain collaboration to greenhouse gas emissions.
