Butcher's old kit

Brian Fields of Fields of Anlaby has made the headlines in his area by investing in a set of wheels with a difference.

In this month's 'Setting up your Own' feature, the topic of home deliveries is examined. But Brian Fields, based near Hull, looks to have taken this idea in a different direction by investing in a 1930s Model B Ford van.

The previous winner of the Midlands & East of England region at Butcher's Shop of the Year, has bought the vintage van from a firm in Doncaster, after looking for one for about six years, and it is certainly turning heads.

He told the Hull Mail: "People stop me to have a chat about it and you can see them looking and smiling at it as I drive past. The number of people who stop and take pictures on their phones is amazing.

"I took it to my accountant's office and this bloke stopped me in the car park. I thought he wanted to take my picture, but he gave me his camera and started posing on the side of the van. We are using it for short runs at the moment home deliveries and things like that."

Brian also told the paper he plans to take the van to local schools and give talks to the children about being a butcher; the first outing is planned for the Christmas fair at Hull Collegiate School in Tranby Croft, Anlaby, in December.
