EBLEX to hold triple-bill open evening

 - Published:  08 April, 2008

EBLEX is holding its next beef and sheep farmer open meeting in Gloucestershire on 14 April.

The event will consist of three rotating activity sessions starting at 6.30pm and finishing about 9pm. It takes place at the Hatherley Manor Hotel, Down Hatherley, near Gloucester and starts with hot beef and lamb rolls plus an address from EBLEX chairman John Cross.

The first session will give farmers an opportunity to see the virtual beef and virtual lamb interactive computer programmes developed by EBLEX as part of its Better Returns Programme.

These demonstrations enable farmers to see, at the touch of a button, the appearance of different fat levels and conformation classes on animals to help them in their selection for slaughter decision making.

The next session will include a butchery demonstration with a presentation on how levy funds are being used to fund English beef and lamb industry marketing activity at home and overseas.

Finally, sheep producers can get involved in a practical sheep Better Returns lameness workshop, featuring the latest control measures to reduce the impact of this frequent problem in the flock.

The open evening is free, but those wishing to go need to reserve a place. For further information contact Selma Todd at EBLEX on 01823 283161, email selmat@eblex.org.uk .
