Bernard Matthews to move to 100% British turkey products
Bernard Matthews has announced that it will produce all its turkey products from 100% British turkeys by August 2008.
In a statement, the company said: "We will ensure that all our turkey products, which represent 87% of our portfolio, are made from British turkeys, using eggs that are hatched at Great Witchingham by our breeding flocks and reared on our farms across East Anglia. We have plans to review the sourcing of our chicken and pork products in due course."
Bernard Matthews said it was committed to providing consumers with greater information to help them make more informed choice about their purchases. "All new Bernard Matthews packaging carries a country of origin statement. This will provide consumers with information regarding the provenance of the meat, which we believe, will be far more informative for consumers than the current practice of only stating where the meat is packed."
