EBLEX marketeer retires

 - Published:  28 March, 2008

Andrew Garvey, communications and marketing manager for EBLEX, is to retire at the end of this month (March).

Garvey started his career with the MLC in 1981 as a Trade Liaison Officer for the north of England, working with the meat trade. He moved to Scotland in 1984 as the Commission's first marketing officer for Scotland.

Garvey then joined the marketing department in 1987 as the bacon and meat product manager and, in 1992, became the MLC's pig meat product manager, responsible for all marketing activities on pig meat.

He opened MLC's regional office in Huntingdon in 1999 and then became industry relations manager for the east of England.

In October 2002, Garvey was seconded to the newly formed EBLEX, as a member of the management team, and, in April 2004, became head of marketing for EBLEX.

John Cross, chairman of EBLEX, commented: "Andrew has made an enormous contribution to the success of the Quality Standard Scheme with consumers and the trade, and his work with the EBLEX export team has been vital in securing the rapidly expanding overseas markets that are so important to the domestic sector. His energy, experience and dedication will be missed by everyone."
