Sales for goose flying high
A number of top London restaurants will be serving goose for Michaelmas which starts tomorrow (29 September) as the appeal of goose gains momentum nearing to Autumn.
The Goring Hotel in Grosvenor Gardens will be serving Goose on its menus from today (28 September) for the whole week as producers report growing interest as Michaelmas approaches.
British Goose Producers chairman Judy Goodman said: “Goose is the last remaining seasonal poultry and that’s an important part of its appeal. As one of the old quarter days, there are many customs associated with Michaelmas which marks the time when geese start to become available.”
Goodman is producing 150 to 200 Michaelmas geese on her family’s farm at Great Witley, near Worcester, and found an increasing demand at the Malvern Autumn Garden show held last week.
Goose was also being served by award winning wine merchants Berry Bros & Rudd are as part of a food and wine matching event held at their St James Street premises on 25 September where diners sampled pâté de foie gras, roast goose, smoked goose breast, confit of goose legs, goose consommé and even chocolate brownies made from goose eggs.
