New levy rates announced

 - Published:  20 March, 2008

Ministers have approved the levy rates proposed by the newly established Agriculture and Horticulture Levy Board for the 2008/9 financial year.

The rates for most sectors, including beef and lamb, will remain the same. The beleaguered pig sector will benefit from a 10p reduction in the pig producer levy.

The levy rates were announced on 19 March following a consultation in 2008 by the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) on their draft Corporate Plan. A copy of the final version of the Plan is now available on the Defra website at: http://defraweb/farm/policy/levy-bodies/index.htm.

The plan contains the proposed levy rates for beef, lamb and pigs in England only. Separate arrangements will operate in Scotland and Wales.
