McIntosh Donald cuts jobs

A Scottish meat processing plant is to reduce job numbers in a bid to cut waste from the production cycle.

Following a review, McIntosh Donald is to introduce a new production schedule at its Porthleven plant in Aberdeenshire, reducing two squads of workers to one. As a result, six jobs will go, the company has announced.

Managing director Alan McNaughton commented: “Historically we have built in additional capacity to allow for constant growth.

"But with the current economic climate we have to concentrate on maximum efficiencies in the Porthleven plant, so we do not have the luxury of excessive spare capacity."

A total of 280 staff work at the plant.
