Posters to aid humane slaughter
The Humane Slaughter Association (HSA) has produced a series of technical information posters to illustrate how to use slaughter equipment correctly.
The posters, three of which have been produced, are designed for display in slaughterhouses at the relevant processing points.
They cover stunning cattle with captive-bolt equipment; electrical stunning of sheep; and use of mechanical percussive devices for poultry. The poultry poster is also suitable for display on-farm, since the type of equipment involved can be used as an emergency culling tool.
Already in use in a number of abattoirs and in Animal Health offices across the UK, the posters are designed to encourage best-practice, with clear and concise information for operating staff. Additional red meat posters are planned for further species and equipment.
