Card scheme saver

A discount loyalty scheme, run by shop chain Lloyd Maunder is proving a big hit with customers, the company has said.

The Devon and Cornwall firm launched a card scheme in all 14 of its shops in January and it is predicted that customers have collectively saved more than £1,000 by using the cards. Company owner Andrew Maunder said: "We wanted to show our customers how much we value their trade and encourage people to keep shopping on the high street and support local independent businesses in these tough economic times.

"As far as we know, we're the only butcher's in the area offering this kind of loyalty scheme, and customer response has been fantastic. Our prices for locally reared meats have always been competitive and customers can choose their cuts and quantities, but the loyalty scheme is a timely and obviously welcome icing on the cake - or, should I say, crackling on the pork."

With the discount loyalty cards, the customer gets a stamp for every transaction of £10 or more. Once 10 stamps are collected, the customer receives a 20% discount on his/her next purchase. By the end of May, a total of 534 discount loyalty cards had been redeemed across the 14 shops, worth an estimated £1,068.
