Butchers on Bikes raise £50,000

 - Published:  24 August, 2009

The final cheques are in and the cash all counted – the Butchers on Bike charity ride from London to Paris raised a grand total of around £50,000.

The trip, which saw more than 30 riders take to their bikes to cycle more than 180 miles, was raising money for four charities: The Butchers’ and Drovers’ Charitable Institution, the Worshipful Company of Butchers Charities, Breast Cancer Research and the NFU’s Farm Africa appeal.

A final lunch was held at Butcher’s Hall earlier this month and the grand total of £50,000 was announced by the trip’s chief architect, BMPA director Stuart Roberts.

He said: “We’re thrilled to have raised as much money as we did and we’re delighted it is going to such worthy causes.

“The ride was a great experience for all concerned and just goes to show how the industry can all work together for a common goal.”

The riders on the trip included processors, retailers, civil servants, journalists and a butcher.
