Dunbia creates new jobs

A Northern Ireland processor has created almost 100 new jobs through the acquisition of a pork processing plant in Ballymena.

Dunbia bought Stevenson’s pork processing business in Cullybackey earlier this year. Initially it was estimated that 100 jobs would be saved and 70 new jobs created at the facility, which was facing closure prior to the acquisition, but Dunbia has now announced that it has increased its workforce by 92.

Welcoming the news, Northern Ireland Enterprise minister Arlene Foster, said: “In the current economic climate, the creation of almost 100 new jobs is good news for the meat-processing sector and will deliver economic benefits to the local area.

“Invest Northern Ireland has been working closely with Dunbia since the acquisition, and has offered £600,000 of support to help the company push its growth plans forward.

“This announcement is a result of Dunbia’s business acumen and foresight to expand their operations in challenging economic times. The company recognised the value of an experienced workforce and quality products when they acquired the long-established Stevenson and Company, back in January.”
