Brazilian meat processor Marfrig has purchased CDB Meats and its subsidiary Ham Packers Limited.

CDB Meats Limited, which was established in 1971, is a leading importer and distributor of branded and own label food products to the retail, foodservice and food manufacturing sectors.

Principal products include both retail and foodservice canned corned beef and canned ready meals. CDB Meats, which has been a customer of Marfrig for a long time, operates from its own premises in Dartford, Kent.

Ham Packers Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of CDB that owns and operates a modern canning factory in Saltash, Cornwall, where it produces a range of canned meat products for sales in the UK. The two companies generate annual sales of around £30m.

Fraser Wilson, managing director of CDB, said: "There are many synergies between our businesses which will deliver added value to our customers and suppliers alike. This strategic move by Marfrig is very good news for our people and we believe that it will provide plenty of career opportunities for talented people, particularly as the pace of expansion continues."

Marfrig operates more than 20 production facilities in Brazil as well as operating slaughterhouses in Argentina, Chile and Uruguay. It also has businesses in USA and Europe and recently went into the pork business in Brazil.
