Weighing it all up
Independent retailers looking to cut costs and improve efficiency can get a competitive edge with the IX scale, said manufacturer Avery Berkel.
The IX is said to offer counter service, electronic cash register functionality and rear-of-store pre-packing in one package. In addition, the scale features a label rewind facility, which is claimed to help owners typically save around 16% on annual consumable costs and eliminate thousands of pounds of label waste each year.
For counter service, up to nine IX scales can be networked, said Avery, enabling the operator to serve the same customer at any scale along the counter, helping to improve efficiency and avoid queues at a particular machine. Up to 56 Product Look-Ups (PLUs) can be stored directly on to the keyboard, enabling the operator to weigh and price the most popular items quickly and easily.
Retailers can also use the IX scale as an electronic cash register for checkout applications. The machine supports the new GS1 bar-code standard and can be integrated with most cash drawers and scanners to provide a full electronic system, capable of storing up to 1,000 PLUs.
