An ale to counter a spicy bark

 - Published:  01 July, 2009

Chef Rick Stein's lovable Jack Russell Chalky sadly passed away in 2007 at the grand old age of 17, but now the much-missed pooch has two beers dedicated to its memory.

The terrier was so popular that not only did he get an obituary from the BBC and The Stage newspaper, but he also got mentioned in Parliament and has his own statue.

The Chalky's Bark beer from Sharp's Brewery is a spicy lemon-fruit nose with ginger that can go with spicy food. It is 4.5% alcohol by volume (ABV) and has a pale appearance with a slightly hazy body and a large fluffy white head. Sharp's Brewery also offers Chalky's Bite and is based in Rock in Cornwall just across the Camel Estuary from Padstow, where Stein has a number of businesses.
