Welsh schools to learn more about meat
Welsh Lamb and Welsh Beef is being positioned to play a bigger part in the classroom following work by Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales.
HCC has teamed up with Careers Wales to run a series of courses for primary school teachers, showing them how to grow and cook food in school.
As part of that Elwen Roberts, HCC’s consumer executive will now teach pupils how to use their home grown veg to create meals with Welsh Beef and Lamb using the popular Cool2Cook children’s recipe book.
Over 30,000 copies of the book have now been given out and more have been reprinted this year to meet the overwhelming demand.
Roberts will be attending the Anglesey Children’s Festival with school meals supplier Eden Food Service, who provide Welsh meat to schools.
The festival is expected to attract around 1,500 children and Roberts will show them how to prepare exciting and healthy meals from the Cool2Cook book and the importance of eating a balanced diet.
Roberts said “It’s really important that we engage with both teachers and children about the importance of eating a healthy balanced diet.
“By showing them that it is easy to prepare meals which are both interesting and healthy we can ensure that children are eating the right food and getting a good diet.”
