Getting out of a poverty jam

Using 40% organic strawberries and organic sugar from Paraguay, Traidcraft's Fairtrade Organic Strawberry Jam is certified by the Soil Association.

The farmers in Paraguay are paid by the bundles of sugar they sell to the local sugar mill and, at harvest time, the farmers bring the bundles by ox-cart to a central point, where they help each other to load the bundles on to a truck.

The farmers hope to use the premiums raised to buy a hectare of land on which they plan to build a mechanical crane to load the bundles on to the trucks. The farmers are also hoping to supplement a government grant to build a well.
