A taste of nostalgia

 - Published:  25 June, 2009

A Northern Ireland competition winner visited Liverpool recently to see her recipe cooked up by food writer Greg Wallace.

Lisburn local Margaret Devlin and her family travelled to England after the winning the MeatMATTERS competition, which aimed to find Britain's all time favourite nostalgia dishes.

The competition was launched by Wallace after he discovered that 33% of people have never helped prepare the family meal and 29% of 18 to 24 year olds don’t see the value of a family meal.

“It’s clear to us that this generation is missing out on those most traditional recipes we loved as children,” he said.

Margaret won the competition with her recipe Roast Leg of Lamb with Rosemary and Honey Parsnips, Bramble Glaze and Hedgerow Relish. Her recipe will appear with others in the new MeatMATTERS recipe booklet - Family Favourites, Recipes You Remember and Recipes You’ll Never Forget.

MeatMATTERS is supported by the Livestock and Meat Commission for Northern Ireland (LMC). For more information visit http://www.meatmatters.com/
