Co-op to open new Manchester branch
The Co-operative Group has announced plans to open a third convenience food store in Manchester, creating 40 jobs
The 3,000sq ft new store, will open on the city's High Street on the 25 June and will offer The Co-operative’s usual range of chilled fresh foods including meat, fruit and vegetables.
It represents a £600,000 investment from the Co-operative Group, which has set aside £8m to revamp 30 food stores in Greater Manchester.
John Briddon, regional chief officer, The Co-operative Food, said: “Our food business goes from strength to strength and we’re pleased and proud to be opening a third store in the city centre as part of our multi-million-pound spending programme in the Greater Manchester area.
“The High Street branch, along with our Corporation Street and Piccadilly Approach stores, will serve as an excellent showcase for our wide range of food and drink products.”
The Co-operative Group also recently unveiled the design for its new headquarters, which will form the centrepiece of its strategy to transform the northern part of the city centre.
The initiative covers a 20-acre site, including the location currently occupied by the head office complex, and is designed to unlock the area’s social and commercial potential to deliver new office space, retail facilities, homes and major open space.
