Asda's search for best steak
A steak tasting challenge is aiming to reveal the best of Scottish beef at the Royal Highland show this week. Asda’s Extra Special steak tasting challenge will see more than 30 beef suppliers competing for the top title at the show.
Cattle have already been sent to ABP Perth and carcasses are being matured for 28 days before the final steaks are prepared.
Six steaks will then be selected for the judging and will be cooked in front of an audience of farmers with Asda new product development chef Peter Williamson judging the final leg of the competition.
Asda red meat buyer Jim Viggars said: “We’ve had a fantastic response to the competition this year. It’s a great opportunity to showcase the best in Scottish beef and acknowledge the skills and expertise of our Asda BeefLink farmers put into producing such excellent quality beef.”
The first prize winner will receive a decanter and goblets plus £500 of ASDA shopping vouchers, with second and third placed winners receiving £300 and £200 worth of vouchers respectively.
