Bernard Matthews Farms has appointed a new managing director to take over leadership of the UK business.

Jeff Halliwell has had 30 years in the food and fast-moving consumer goods industries and joins Bernard Matthews following a three-year period as managing director of First Milk Cheese Company.

Noel Bartram, who has held the temporary post of UK managing director alongside his role of group chief executive for the past 18 months, said Halliwell’s appointment will give “clarity of leadership” in the UK and align the group structure with managing directors in each country.

”Jeff has significant understanding of the food industry, with extensive experience both of brands and private-label, and of agricultural business,” he added.

Halliwell brings a wealth of experience to the role, having held senior positions on a number of major brands including Mars, Cow & Gate, Milupa, Northern Foods and Fox’s Biscuits.

“Bernard Matthews Farms has been through some tough times but it has taken some major steps to re-establish the brand,” he said. “I relish a challenge and I look forward to being part of the team that takes the business forward.”
