Butchers on bikes reach Paris
|
Four days and 187 hard miles later, the Butchers on Bikes team rolled into Paris in triumph.
The weeks of training, or minutes in some cases, paid off as all 31 cyclists crossed the finish line under the Eiffel Tower. Hills, rain and French pedestrians proved no obstacle to the intrepid team, although the accomodation nearly finished some of them off.
Team leader Stuart Roberts said: "There were some really tough times, but we dug deep and pushed on through.
"It was a fantastic trip and we've raised more than £40,000 and still counting. Any more donations gratefully received."
Further money was raised by NFU director general Richard MacDonald who removed his long standing moustache during the trip.
The trip was raising money for the Butchers & Drovers Charitable Institution, the Worshipful Company of Butchers Charities, Breast Cancer Research and the NFU's Farm Africa appeal.
Roberts added: "There were some who doubted we'd make it, but we have the scars, mainly physical but some mental - particularly for those who roomed with Rob Smith - to prove it.
Donations are still being accepted here and the blog has further details on the trip.
