Sainsbury's launches lamb scheme

 - Published:  10 June, 2009

Young farmers are being urged to join a new scheme to supply lamb to Sainsbury’s in a joint initiative between the supermarket, Dunbia and farming group Wales YFC.

Wales YFC will receive 40p/head from all lambs sold into the scheme, while young farmers will get access to a development programme to learn more about the market and consumers through a series of development days.

A Wales YFC spokeswoman said: “We want them to be able to look at new technology, ID and to learn about supermarket supply.”

The group aims to eventually supply 220 lambs per week to 10 Sainsbury’s stores in Wales.
