WRAP launches online recycling database
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in England now have the benefit of a dedicated online recycling database, thanks to WRAP's Business Growth Programme.
The first of its kind in England, the WRAP database which went live yesterday at http://www.recycleatwork.org.uk
Sarah Downes, WRAP's manager, English regions, said: "Many SMEs want to recycle their waste but find it difficult to find appropriate recycling services, which means good recyclable materials are going to landfill.
"SMEs cover a vast range of businesses that all have different recycling needs - either because of the relatively low quantity of recyclable materials they produce, the space they have available to store materials or their location. The new WRAP database makes it easy for SMEs to find a convenient and appropriate service in their area and therefore recycle more of their waste materials."
SMEs can search for recycling service providers using a number of different factors, such as the type of material they want to recycle and whether they require a collection or drop-off service. The search also provides information on the frequency of the service and what type of collection containers are provided. This ensures people find a service that is tailored specifically to their individual needs.
The database contains details of over 1,500 recycling service providers in England and will be regularly updated. Recycling service providers who do not already feature on the database can request that their details be added, offering them the opportunity to reach new customers in their area.
John Holbrow, environment chairman, Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), said: "Businesses are increasingly realising how important it is to minimise their impact on the environment. The new recycling database will be a valuable tool to help SMEs find local services that are suited to their particular needs."
