Dawsonrentals is asking companies using old sea containers for storage if they realise how energy-consuming it can be to use ageing containers.
One company that Dawsonrentals worked with said that, until recently, it was hiring two 2-bay 40-foot linked sea containers, which provided a floor space of 102m².
A Dawsonrentals complex, with a floor space of 121m², replaced the ageing containers, consuming just 218kW hours per day. The electrical saving of 72.2% reduced the customer's carbon emission on the freezers from 132t to 38.5t per annum, achieving a projected annual saving on electricity costs of £17,560.
Dawsonrentals said other benefits include: a quiet fridge; mains failure and temperature alarms; easy-open doors; and a flat resin floor for ease of product movement.
