Top organic producers wanted

 - Published:  14 May, 2009

The Soil Association is inviting the organic meat trade to nominate its favourite products for assessment in this year’s Organic Food Awards.

Competition organisers said they were eager to hear from producers of organic food to win the chance of getting recognition for their produce from a panel of chefs, artisans and food writers, which would give the potential to boost sales.

Judging chair Barny Haughton said: “In previous years our judges have noted with surprise that a particular farmer or food manufacturer hasn’t entered. So we would appreciate the help of everyone in the food industry and invite nominations for outstanding organic food products and producers in the UK. It would be great to be able to shine a light on more of the wonderful organic food and drink on offer in this country.”

The Organic Food Awards aim to raise the profile of organic food and farming to the public and increase awareness, both locally and nationally, of quality organic food.

The competition is sponsored by Highland Spring in association with The Times. Judging will take place over three days at the Duke of Cambridge organic pub in London from 7-9 July.

To nominate contact Feona Horrex at the Soil Association at fhorrex@soilassociation.org. The award organisers will then contact the producers directly to encourage them to enter.
