God's County

A county of contrasts, from rolling countryside, cream teas and seaside resorts to tough estates, abandoned factories and deserted coal pits, Yorkshire has something for everyone - and it doesn't differ when it comes to its food.

The products here are all members of the Regional Food Group who help to support and promote food and drink companies in the Yorkshire and Humberside area under the Deliciouslyorkshire branding.

With a focus on snacks and light meals this month, good-quality local produce where, if possible, exclusivity can be obtained, will definitely make a shop stand out from a crowded market. People feel good when they buy produce from a local company and never achieve the same feeling when they buy a product from a supermarket that comes from a multinational corporation. The problem, though, is that these products are usually much cheaper, due to economies of scale. And when times are tough on shopping budgets, as they are now, products that are at the higher end of the market always suffer. But people will still part with their cash if it is worth it, so going local is worth a punt and it helps the local economy too.
