Meat factory fire bosses look for new facility

The directors of a meat factory gutted by a fire earlier this week are looking for new premises to restart production.

Bosses at Scottish-based Campbells’ Prime Meats, which supplies a range of catering businesses, hotels, restaurants and takeaways, started the search hours after fire destroyed its main meat factory and HQ.

Managing director Christopher Campbell said that the company, which was forced to cancel all meat orders after its factory was seriously damaged in the blaze, is keen to restart operations as soon as possible.

“The key assets at Campbells Prime Meat Ltd are the excellent staff, and the loyal customers. These assets were not affected by the fire,” he said.

The processor has received overwhelming support from local businesses and has been innundated with offers of assistance, including office space so administration and sales teams can continue working.

“I have been touched by the numerous messages of support we have received from customers, suppliers and competitors,” said Campbell

He added that is unlikely that meat supplies will resume for at least four weeks, but said the company will make weekly statements informing all customers and stakeholders of developments.
