Welsh producers are hoping to turn Hong Kong’s love of rugby to their advantage and will try to convert the Chinese to Welsh Lamb.

Welsh producers are hoping to turn Hong Kong’s love of rugby to their advantage and will try to convert the Chinese to Welsh Lamb.

The Hong Kong Sevens rugby tournament is one of the most popular events in the international rugby calendar and now Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) is trying to make Welsh Lamb just as popular among people in Hong Kong.

HCC will be attending the HOFEX trade show between the 6-9 May in a bid to increase the links between exporters and buyers in the Far East and get Welsh Lamb served up in more hotels and restaurants.

Welsh Lamb is already exported to Hong Kong and Singapore but HCC is now hoping to increase the demand for quality Welsh Lamb in China and other countries in East Asia.

Bill Joyce, HCC’s marketing manager, said “Welsh Lamb is already proving popular among buyers in Hong Kong and Singapore, and this event gives us the opportunity to get more quality Welsh Lamb into the Asian market.

“We’ve seen a lot of interest in Welsh Lamb in countries such as Dubai and France this year, and we hope to see a similar response in Hong Kong.”

He added: “People in Hong Kong already share Wales’ passion for rugby, now we hope they will share their passion for Welsh Lamb.”
