SALSA seminar

 - Published:  13 February, 2008

Local food organisation Produced in Kent is hosting a seminar to inform small producers about how to achieve accreditation with the Safe and Local Supplier Approval Scheme (SALSA).

The seminar will be held at Oakwood House in Kent on 5 March and will be presented by Brian Humphrey, a specialist in food safety regulation and one of the south-east consultants registered to guide and audit small producers for the scheme.

SALSA is a non-profit making joint venture between the four main trade associations that represent the UK Food Chain: the National Farmers Union (NFU), the Food and Drink Federation (FDF), the British Hospitality Association (BHA) and the British Retail Consortium (BRC).

The scheme is tailored to help small producers raise their food safety standards and is designed to be less arduous and expensive than full BRC accreditation. Local and national buyers are able to search SALSA's directory for approved suppliers by region and product group.
