Marinades deal spices up barbies
A Lancashire food firm has struck an exclusive deal with an Australian foods manufacturer to distribute liquid marinades to butchers in time for the summer.
Amko Foods, based in Bolton, has been appointed as the sole UK distributor for Australian food producer Corona Foods after a recent factory visit in Australia.
Amko owner Peter Martindale said: “As far as we’re aware – apart from one other company based in the Netherlands (Verstegen) – there is no other firm in the UK that distributes liquid marinades to the butchers, so competition has been limited. We hope to give butchers a better choice than they currently have and, hopefully, a better price.”
Amko Foods said it is now looking to appoint sub-distributors in the next few months in various areas of the UK.
Corona Foods was established in 1898 in Bendigo, Australia and is said to be one of Australia’s major manufacturers of liquid marinades, seasonings and sprinkles. Amko has agreed a sole distribution agreement with Corona to import the marinades into the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
