Deboning challenge to find best butcher in Europe

 - Published:  20 April, 2009

UK butchers are being given the chance to compete against the best in Europe with the first European Deboning Championship.

Organised by German equipment supplier Friedr Dick (F. Dick) and processor Tönnies Fleisch, the competition is open to all butchers across Europe.

A spokesman for F. Dick said: “The object is to get the interest of all workers employed in the meat industry to find the best. The Championship will improve the image of the whole meat industry and the skills of butchery workers.”

The competition will look at all aspects of the job from technical skills to hygiene standards. Competitors will be asked to debone three shoulders of pork in the initial rounds, and five in the final rounds. They will be assessed on the speed and appearance of the end products.

A deposit of €50 is required to enter, and those interested should visit www.dick.de for entry forms.
The overall winner will take home a Harley Davidson Street Rod motorbike, and further cash prizes are available.
