British Turkey signs up to British Food Fortnight

The British Turkey Federation has signed up as a sponsor of the British Food Fortnight, a celebration of the best home produced produce.

British Food Fortnight is a year-round “buy British” campaign that culminates in a fortnight of events at the end of September.

British Turkey Federation spokesman Catriona Lee said: “British Food Fortnight celebrates British food in pubs, restaurants, retailers and foodservice. It is the country’s key focus on the diverse and delicious range of food that Britain produces – and we felt that British Turkey must be on the table.”

This year, BFF will include a packed turkey meat competition and producers are being encouraged to enter all varieties of packed turkey meat - from breast steaks to strips, mince and diced turkey.

The British Turkey Federation is also planning to get more turkey on the school menu through a BFF-backed challenge to school cooks and pupils to create a special school dinner using British turkey.

Lee added: “This sits well with our on-going campaign to educate consumers about the versatility and nutritional benefits of turkey. It is one of the healthiest meats, making it perfect for the school menu.

“Now we have the benefit of the familiar Red Tractor logo alongside our own Quality British Turkey assurance, we can provide double reassurance for customers and consumers in terms of food safety, traceability and bird welfare.”
