Year’s sales well up at the Restaurant Group

 - Published:  03 April, 2009

Sales at Garfunkels and Frankie and Benny’s chain of popular restaurants – collectively known as the Restaurant Group – have fallen by 2.5% in the first nine weeks of this year.

The news overshadowed the announcement of a £3m rise in full-year profits to £47m. The group reckons that people continue to spend £10-£16 a head in its restaurants, as eating out has become part and parcel of people’s lives, which they are reluctant to abandon willingly. Boss Andrew Page reckons 2009 will be rough, as the company is not totally protected from the recession.
