Products in for SuperMeat

 - Published:  06 March, 2009

The products are now all in and judges will be limbering up in readiness for a week of gruelling judgement.

SuperMeat & Fish are the premier awards event for the industry and judges will have a tough time picking out the winner from what is going to be an impressive field of entries.

The awards, now into their 10th year and organised by Meat Trades Journal, reward the best in supermarket retailing of meat and fish. Both stores and products are judged, with one retailer being declared the overall SuperMeat Retailer of the Year. Taking part in this year's competition are Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, The Co-operative and Marks & Spencer.

Ed Bedington, editor of MTJ, said: "The competition for a SuperMeat award is always intense, and I expect this year will be no different. The products entered are all of a very high standard and it's a tough job for the judges to pick out the winners from such a strong field."

Judging is due to take place towards the end of the month on products, with stores to be judged afterwards. This year's awards will again see an overall winner declared from among the competing supermarkets, as well as the return of our popular Head Office Initiative of the Year and Meat Personality of the Year. New categories have also been introduced, including Best Sustainable Product and Best Value Product.

If you have a candidate in mind for Meat Personality of the Year, do not forget to send your nomination into the editor at ed.bedington@william-reed.co.uk. The names with the most nominations will then be put up on www.meatinfo.co.uk for public vote to decide the winner.

This year's SuperMeat & Fish Awards are being sponsored by BPEX, Bord Bia, EBLEX, Vion and HCC - Meat Promotion Wales.
