US giant buys Freeman's

A Gloucestershire based chicken production company has been bought by a competitor for an undisclosed sum.

A Gloucestershire based chicken production company has been bought by a competitor for an undisclosed sum.

Freeman's of Newent, which supplies butchers, supermarkets and restaurants and employs 120 staff,

has been bought by Sun Valley Europe a subsidiary ofthe giant US agribusiness Cargill.

Director Clifford Freeman said of the family firm founded in 1953: "We have built a strong and effective

business over the years. Selling the business to Cargill as a going concern will position it well for future success and enable it to reach its full potential."

A spokesman for Sun Valley commented: "Freeman's will strengthen our fresh chicken business, complement our existing operations in Hereford and reinforce our commitment to UK agriculture and our UK customers."
