Product judging complete for SuperMeat

Product juding is now complete for this year's SuperMeat & Fish Awards after a week of solid tasting and testing.

Almost 150 separate products across seven different categories were judged at the MLC test kitchens last week and a shortlist of the finalists will be published in the next issue of Meat Trades Journal.

Ed Bedington, editor of MTJ, said: "The judges have had a tough time going through so many different products and the competition this year has been very tough."

Store judging will now be taking place next month as the competition enters its final stages.

The awards, which take place at the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane, London, on 3 July, celebrate the best in multiple meat retailing, from the products to the stores, with one retailer being named the overall SuperMeat Retailer of the Year.

Taking part in this year's competition are Asda, Sainsbury's, Tesco, Waitrose, Somerfield, The Co-operative Group and Marks & Spencer.

Also returning to our 2008 awards will be our newer categories, Head Office Initiative of the Year and Meat Personality of the Year.

The awards are being sponsored by the Livestock & Meat Commission, EBLEX, HCC - Meat Promotion Wales, the Danish Bacon & Meat Council, BPEX, Bord Bia and the Vion Food Group.
