Entering the final phase

The finalists for Scotland and the North of England have been announced as judges move into the final phase of judging in SuperMeat & Fish 2007.

The store finalists for the regions judged so far are:

Scotland - Tesco, Edinburgh; Asda, Livingston; Tesco, Milngarvie, Glasgow.

North of England - Tesco, Carlisle, Asda, Peterlee; Asda, Trafford Park.

Judges are still touring the UK to determine which stores will be going through to the final for Wales, Northern Ireland, the South East, South West and Midlands & East, and the results will be announced in the coming weeks, so watch this space.

Fred A'Court, chair of judges, said the standard of entries was good this year: "The judging team has viewed a wide range of large and small stores, taking in not only the marvellous meat and fish counter displays but also some highly decorative aisle displays. Supermarkets continue to provide an outstanding service to their customers, as our judges have been able to verify through their visits this year."

Meanwhile, votes are coming in thick and fast for the meat industry Personality of the Year award, which is sponsored by Interfood Technology.

Brian Haigh, Bill Parker and Peter Scott are all up for your vote but only one can be declared winner on the night, so visit www.meatinfo.co.uk to register your preference.

The awards, established by MTJ in 1999, aim to encourage new product development, as well as honouring the top stores around Britain and will take place on 19 June, 2007, at the Park Lane Hilton in London.

Sponsors include the Vion Food Group, EBLEX, HCC - Meat Promotion Wales, Interfood Technology, the Danish Bacon & Meat Council, The Livestock & Meat Commission, Bord Bia and BPEX.

The awards cover Tesco, Sainsbury's and Asda stores, all of which have also entered products, along with Waitrose and the Co-operative Group.
